ALEXA MEADE: LIVING COLORS

It is with great pleasure that the Gallery for Contemporary Photography announces its long-term collaboration with the Luxembourg-based company VIOLife. VIOLife has made it possible to exhibit artists represented by the Gallery for Contemporary Photography in the newly renovated spaces of its company’s building.
This new exhibition space in Luxembourg is setting standards for quality and opens with “LIVING COLORS” featuring the works of Los Angeles-based, American artist Alexa Meade (born 1986). Since her international breakthrough in 2010, she has become a shooting star on the international art scene by exhibiting and performing in every international metropolitan art center. Through her unique approach to painting , she transforms people and objects into twodimensional images of themselves, creating a painterly interpretation of the objects directly on their surfaces then recording it in a photograph. The result questions our visual understanding, making us reconsider our own perception and the general truth of images.
In addition to twelve images from the world-famous “MILK-Series” (2012) and four works from the series “Street Art” (2012), six works created in collaboration with photographer Lacey for Details Magazine (2014) will be on view for the first time. Two additional pictures which belong to the category of “never-before-seen” are from two famous performances in Washington, DC that occurred in 2010.
